Engineer ECS, Engineers Without Borders Restore Impassible Road in Africa

Volunteer specialists from Chantilly, Va-based Engineering Consulting Providers is working with pro-bono advocacy group Engineers With out Borders USA to revive an impassable roadway in a distant village in East Africa that retains it minimize off from the closest hospital, faculties and different group places in the course of the area’s wet season.  . 

In April, Bryan Layman, the agency’s senior vice chairman and subsidiary regional supervisor was a part of a group of engineers from the group’s Northern Virginia professionals’ chapter who spent every week in Kaseye, Malawi to finish the challenge’s evaluation part. It included conducting GPS surveys over a four-mile stretch of highway, assembly with group members and native leaders, consulting with regional contractors and amassing information to tell drainage and highway design enhancements.

The challenge now strikes into engineering analysis, hydrologic evaluation and phased building planning. The design group is working to design sturdy, cost-effective enhancements which are regionally sustainable and respectful of regional circumstances and governance.
